Top 5 Reasons to Work in Care

Updated: Jan 28, 2022

Are you considering a career in care, but not sure what to expect? The attention given to the care sector isn’t always the most positive, but in this blog, we’ll be detailing the top 5 reasons to embark on a career in care.

1. It's Rewarding

I’m sure many of us have had moments at work where we take a moment and ask ourselves “what am I doing with my life?”

Finding a job that is fulfilling and rewarding can be extremely difficult, but care work is exactly that.

In care, you’ll be helping vulnerable people who will depend on you. You’ll be helping make their lives a little bit easier and making a difference to their day.

Care work is intensely personal, which means that you forge genuine relationships with service users, as well as their families, that will enrich your life.

2. No Day is the Same

If variety is the spice of your life, then care is the job for you.

Whatever role you go into, which ever institution you work for, you’ll constantly be meeting new people, facing new challenges, and taking on different tasks.

The last thing you’ll do when working in care, is wait for the day to end.

3. Earn Valuable Skills and Qualifications

You don’t always need qualifications to begin you career in care.

Many homes and employers will provide on-the-job training to get you up to speed and provide you with the necessary skills.

Beyond this, there are often many opportunities to further these skills and pursue real qualifications, allowing you to progress professionally.

4. Flexibility

The care sector is a 24/7, 365 job.

People need support around the clock, which can be intense, but it also means that the shift patterns involved in care work are hugely varied and flexible.

Whether your studying for a new qualification, you have children, or elderly loved ones you have to care or in your own time, you can arrange your shifts to fit around these commitments.

If you’re not a fan of the traditional 9-5, then the care sector is definitely for you.

5. A sense of belonging

Unlike almost any other profession, care work is extremely personal.

While team camaraderie can be built in any workplace, when joining as team in a care home, you’ll be joining a group of people who share your drive and passion for helping some of the more vulnerable people in society.

You’ll be working with a team and wider network of professionals towards a larger, tangible goal of making a positive impact on lives, and that’s not something you can say of every job.
